What can be said about Snowmass that isn't common knowledge in the world of first class outdoor recreation? To the inner ski circle it's nothing short of paradise. The famous Snowmass snow – reportedly named after the shear amount of prime powder that once piled up on the mountain - attracts the savviest skiers in the world. When you're not out there churning the snow, there is so much activity both on and off-mountain to keep every body running, relaxing, biking, hiking, flying, touring the creek and just filling the lungs with clean, crisp high country oxygen – some of the best in the world. Though Snowmass snow reports indicate there is currently no new snow atop Snowmass Mountain, consider a summer vacation in beautiful Snowmass Village. Reputation has it that Colorado ski country is just about as popular among warm weather mongers as it is for ski bums. For your information, the 2005-2006 season at Snowmass and Aspen Mountains will be open from the last week in November until around the middle of April. Reports are that Aspen Highlands and Buttermilk will be open from around mid-December to the first week of April. The area gets an average yearly snowfall of about 300 inches.

Snowmass contains 3,100 acres of ski worthy terrain. New to Snowmass is an extended pipeline terrain park containing more intermediate jumps, a fun box, and more. Of the Pipes and Parks, Snowmass boasts three terrain parks, one terrific superpipe, and one rail yard. A brand new lift cuts down the ride time to only eight and a half minutes, and there's also a new intermediate level terrain park on Velvet Falls.

And in case you didn't know, Snowmass's legendary freeride park was home to the 2004-2005 X-Games. Need more be said?

Of the 137 miles of trail (87 trails) at Snowmass, 6 percent of them are easy, 50 percent are intermediate, 12 percent are difficult and 32 percent are expert.
